Marc Fischer suggested that I post my question on stonerrock.com. Most of the replies were trash talk but I liked the following.

When I the first heard "Killed by Death" as a teenager I knew that the world could go and fuck itself and no matter what happened I had that power over it. Its still my anthem. Motˆrhead kick ass like nobody else. Its just meat and potato, ass kicking, booze fueled, heavy fucking rock'n'roll. If anybody else but Lemmy 'sang' it would be shite. Nobody sings like Lemmy and that makes him special. You don't ask Lemmy to caress you ears with melodic bliss. You want him to pour whiskey down them and set them alight.

Motörhead is like the alcoholic, messed up on crank, beat the everlovin' fuck out of ya biker gang that got bored one day and said "Hey lets start a band." That alone makes them infinitely cool. Then add the fact to that that hardly anyone rocks the bass guitar as much as Lemmy and hearing "Dancing on Your Grave" and that's to me how Motörhead changed my life.

For me, the best thing about Motörhead is that NME said they were the worst band ever. Knowing that some twatty bollocks music critic had written that, simply because Motörhead didn't conform to the received wisdom about indie music's shoe gazing toss wankery, made me respect them and love them for being the most unashamedly rock'n'roll bunch of bastards ever.

Motörhead turned me into a ramones fan.
I heard a friend say once "whoever turned you on to the ramones is one of the most important people you'll ever meet". I first heard Motˆrhead when I started skating back when I was about 12. I had been way into Maiden and Ozzy at that point, but wasn't really into punk. the first cassette i bought by them was 'ace of spades' (of course) and couldn't believe how trashy they sounded. it was like they were knockin' everything over in the room when they played. well, i immediately became infatuated. those guys were tuff and I was a stoopid impressionable pre-teen. They pretty much helped me grow an attitude (which actually didn't surface until my mid-20's) and sparked my interest/understanding of punk, hence, love for the Ramones.
