1. Confusion.
Growing up, during high school I knew guys who were heavy metal, and guys who
were punk. As always happens, occasionally records would be traded. I would
lend records of the Stooges, Velvet Underground, would tell the guys to check
out Motörhead . Invariably the guys would return the records, disappointed
at the absence of heaviness. Ok, maybe the Velvet Underground. This put me out
of the ring of the cool guys. At the same time I'd listen to their Judas Priest,
Motley Crue, Ted Nugent (it was Michigan after all) or Cramps records and think,
"What is so heavy and threatening about this?" I still don't know.
And I still don't know how anybody can claim Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Ted
Nugent or the Cramps heavier than the Stooges or Motörhead.
2. Inadequacy
With Lemmy alive, I'll forever be reminded how incapable of growing facial hair,
let alone cool facial hair, I am.
